The value of life-long learning
2018.09.07
Some people think learning ends just when they graduate from high
schools or colleges. And after that they may lead lives which have
nothing to do with learning.
But these days more and more people think learning lasts much
longer. I agree with this view. That’s because there should be no
perfectly learned people. In this sense learning lasts for good. But
what merit can we expect from so-called life-long learning?
First, it can keep your minds and spirits lively and sound. From
the medical point of view, after we reach 20, the number of brain
cells keep on decreasing. But when we exercise our brains, this pace
eminently slows down.
Second, when you continue learning,it can help in your career.
For example, some qualification improves the prospect of promotion.
Even if you don't get promotion, you've acquired knowledge and
information as your assets.
Third, when you have children who go to school, you can show
them good examples. You can be role models. If you just sit back
on couches and just tell them to study hard, it’s never convincing.
Like this life-long learning has a lot of merits. Why don't we
start it right away?
