People once lived at much slower pace. There were no commuting
hells. They didn’t have to watch stock price index which fluctuated
incessantly.
Today, however, people are leading fast-paced lives. What once
was a century is equivalent to one decade.When people got some
skill decades ago,they might expect to make a living for a long time.
However, today no skill or knowledge could guarantee economic
stability. They may get obsolete soon.
Speaking of the computer industry, there has been a myth that engineers
retire at the age of 35 or so because they can’t keep up
with the state-of-the-art technology any longer.
This may be an extreme instance. However, more and more employees
fear losing jobs because of the rapid social and technological
development.
How should we cope with it? It might be better to move to
countryside if you dislike hectic city lives. It might be a good idea to
always arm yourself with up-to-date knowledge and skills. Or it
might be the best choice to sing in a karaoke box to forget every
stressful thing.
Anyway it seems clear that it’s not so easy to keep abreast with
this fast-paced society.
